Queer Joy A performance by Sangram Mukhopadhyay
In deliberating matters of queerness, it is useful to think about how reciprocity of pleasure begets possibilities. To be able to fully come into oneself is a mark of great resistance and to do so in a shared communion is a matter of great privilege and joy. Centering to these thoughts, this performance is a short iteration of how a body in ecstasy can claim openness in arduously stretching the foundation of a form(Whacking/Waacking) over a self-assembled transgression of meaning and motivation. Through Gloria GAYnor’s ‘81 classic, the solo serenades gestures that emanate aspects that rouse in queer refusal to conform and comply. Moving in relation to the social dynamics that are currently unfolding around the world, it is an attempt to mark resilience and restitution by altering known meanings distinctly infused with merrymaking
